What does CFM stand for?

CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute of exhausting air flow. When choosing your ventilation needs it is important to size the CFM’s appropriately, based on your cooking equipment. Please see your ventilation specialist to properly size your ventilation hood.

What is the difference between ducted and ductless ventilation?

Venting to the outside of the home is always preferred for proper removal of all air impurities. When venting to the outside of the home is not possible, ductless ventilation is available and also called recirculating ventilation. Ductless ventilation filters can trap much of the grease and odors from normal cooking, however smoke, heat and odors will continue to be recirculated into the home. Professional sized and styled cooking appliances should always be ducted to the outside of the home.

Does Elitair offer a recirculating hood?

Yes. Elitair offers a recirculating kit that requires no outside ducting. See your authorized Elitair dealer for details.

How often should I clean my filters?

If you cook in your home 5 or more days per week, you should wash your aluminum mesh grease filters in the dishwasher monthly. If you are an avid cook and your creations contain a larger portion of grease, increase wash schedule. If you have a ductless, carbon filter, these may not be washed and must be replaced every 3-6 months with normal cooking styles.

When installing my new ventilation hood, how high should it be placed above the cooking surface?

For best results there should be 24-30” from the cooking surface to the bottom of the hood.

What is the greatest distance that I can run the ductwork for my new hood?

For maximum performance the straightest and shortest distance to the exterior is preferred. Try to use the fewest possible turns. When a turn is necessary, it should be at a 45˚ angle. A 90˚ or other sharp bend will disturb the flow of air and reduce the effectiveness of the ventilation hood.

Can I exhaust my hood into the attic?

No. Ductwork carries grease, moisture and heat away from the cooking surface. Exhausting these by-products into a confined space such as an attic or garage is very dangerous and not recommended.

What is the best way to clean the surface of my hood?

Elitair recommends cleaning your stainless steel surfaces with Classic Cleaner®. Classic Stainless Steel Cleaner is a high-quality aerosol cleaning material for enhancing the appearance and integrity of stainless steel, chrome, aluminum, porcelain, ceramic tile and laminate. This product can be purchased from your local dealer or at www.us-appliance.com. It is always important to remember to avoid all abrasive cleansers and to clean in the same directions as the grain of the stainless steel.

Should I turn off the ventilation fan in the event of fire?

Yes. Turn the ventilation system off. Extinguish the fire quickly. If the fan is left on, it could draw flames up into the ductwork and spread the fire into the home.
